Introduction

Vast rural populations lack access to basic life essentials, namely, clean water, access to healthcare, education, energy, and sustainable livelihoods.  Their plight is tragically worsening due to the Covid pandemic, regional conflicts, supply chain disruption, and inflation.

The annual Ideal Village Conferences at Stanford University since 2016 have served as a collaboration platform for diverse organizations to develop a holistic approach for improving rural lives.

These have documented a wealth of learnings and experiences from rural development efforts, covering challenges, solutions, best practices, and project reviews, all viewable at:  https://www.scienceforsociety.com.

The 7thIdeal Village Conference jointly organized by Stanford University, WHEELS Global Foundation, Pan-IIT Alumni, and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will address the theme of Rural Transformation for Sustainable Growth.

Why Participate?

India can become a US$5 Trillion economy primarily through rural development because more than 850 million people live in rural areas. This represents a great opportunity to find new markets, develop new labor sources, enhance manufacturing, with large demands for affordable housing, healthcare, energy, education, etc.

With 100 years since Indian independence in 2047, India must make the investments to build rural infrastructure, implement social impact projects, improve agriculture, and market many more goods and services to this neglected segment.

Rural youth are highly motivated to improve their lives and reverse their migration patterns to live in their communities by birth and start entrepreneurial ventures. This conference will raise the awareness of rural development opportunities and bring industry, academia, NGOs, and Government together to exchange ideas for scaling rural technology applications.

Learn from distinguished speakers, panel discussants, exhibitors, and poster presenters about the ‘best practices’ for implementing water conservation and management, scalable healthcare initiatives such as Telemedicine, emerging technologies for alternative energy, and ‘collaborative governance’ of public-private-partnerships’ by including grass roots Panchayats and Village Groups.Opportunities to meet senior government leaders, corporate executives and other experts in the field, discuss various challenges for development.
