Surinder Makhijia is an alumnus of IIT, Kharagpur, International Rice Research Institute, Philippines and XLRI Jamshedpur, he is the longest serving professional in India in the field water & energy management, micro irrigation for over 50 years. He was member of the committee that made a presentation to Prime Minister’s Office on benefits of micro irrigation in 2003 which resulted in formation of large Micro Irrigation Projects like APMIP in the country.

He is/ has been member of various committees in BIS, NCPAH, PMKSY associated with micro irrigation. He has delivered over 130 lectures/ presentations at various forums and published a number of technical papers on water management, food processing and sustainability in agriculture sector, agri-value chain, hydraulic rams and solar energy.

He has worked as a consultant to Government of Ethiopia at Addis Ababa and now associated with Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd since 2008 as Strategic Advisor & Sr Vice President for water and energy related projects in India, SE Asia, Middle East and Africa.

He works closely with various ministries on policy advocacy to further the interest of all stakeholders in government related programs in India. He is connected with various Embassies, High Commissions, Chamber of Commerce, international organizations like IFC, ADB and World Bank as well as Strategic Organizations like RIS, VIF and ORG.
